I played trumpet for years in high school and college, and I had an elderly Doc Severinsen model that I had a crystal clear pretty sound with. Several years ago, I bought an cheap trumpet and it sounded like rubbish. I have decided to get back in to playing again. Based on the reviews, I decided to go "cheap" and try this. By "cheap" I mean as compared to the $500+ I could spend on what I knew would be a top quality tool.

The other users are right on target about the valves being turned comic in the chambers, but that is simple to fix. Basically unscrew the tops of each valve chamber (not the stem itself), and turn them until they click. When seated properly, air ought to be able to be blown freely through the trumpet with all the valves up. If not, basically try turning them again. With a nice eye you can line up the holes in the valves with the trumpet.

The trumpet ships with valve oil, and the slides are clearly well greased and prepared for action. I took it out of the case, adjusted the valves as noted, blew through it for about two minutes to warm it up, and then produced a sound equivalent to my pretty elderly Doc Severinsen.
